Severe Storms Threaten South and Central US with Multi-Day Impact
Severe weather is expected to impact over 55 million people across the South and Central United States starting Friday afternoon. Following a series of tornado warnings on Thursday, severe thunderstorms are anticipated to develop in eastern Oklahoma and Arkansas, with large hail and damaging winds as primary threats. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Storm Prediction Center has issued a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms in regions including East Texas, southeastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. As the weekend progresses, the threat will extend to the Mississippi Valley, with potential for flash flooding due to heavy rainfall. A Level 3 out of 5 risk is in place for parts of southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma, including cities like Wichita and Tulsa.
