Lebanese Artist Files War Crime Complaint Against Israel Over Parents' Death
Ali Cherri, a Lebanese-French artist, has filed a war crime complaint in France against Israel following the death of his parents in a 2024 Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) airstrike in Beirut. The complaint, supported by the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), alleges that the strike, which killed seven civilians, violated international humanitarian law by failing to distinguish between military and civilian targets. Cherri, whose work has been featured in prominent galleries such as the Guggenheim and Tate Modern, seeks justice for his parents and other civilians affected by the conflict. The complaint comes amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Lebanon, with recent strikes resulting in additional civilian casualties.
