Deep South Swelters While Southwest Faces Flood Risk
The weather across the United States on Wednesday presents a stark contrast between regions. The Deep South, including Texas and Louisiana, continues to experience extreme heat, with temperatures feeling like 100°F (37.8°C) or higher in cities like Houston. Meanwhile, the Southwest, particularly New Mexico, faces heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding. Fall-like temperatures are arriving in northern areas such as New York and Vermont, where highs are expected in the 60s°F (15.6–20°C). According to the National Weather Service, nearly 13 million people faced major to extreme HeatRisk on Tuesday, and this number is expected to rise slightly today. However, the number of people experiencing major HeatRisk is forecast to drop from 50 million to 44 million.
