Texas Lawmaker Calls for Increased Funding for Flood Sirens Amid Rising River Levels
In the Texas Hill Country, recent heavy rains have caused river levels to rise, prompting concerns about the adequacy of current flood warning systems. Governor Greg Abbott noted that flood sirens, installed by both the state and private businesses, have been effective. However, Representative Wes Virdell (R-Brady) expressed concerns that the $50 million allocated last year for flood sirens, gauges, and sensors is insufficient. Virdell emphasized the need for additional funding to enhance the region's flood warning infrastructure, suggesting that the current measures may not be enough to ensure public safety during severe weather events.
