Wyoming Archaeologists Sue BLM Over Native American Repatriation Dispute
The Wyoming Association of Professional Archaeologists has filed a lawsuit against the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Department of the Interior. The lawsuit challenges the BLM's interpretation of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), arguing that recent rule changes overstep legal boundaries. The dispute involves the repatriation of human remains and artifacts from several archaeological sites in Wyoming and Colorado, which the BLM intends to return to Native American tribes.
