Northeastern University Kicks Off Hispanic Heritage Month with Parade and Cultural Events
Northeastern University commenced Hispanic Heritage Month with an annual parade of flags and a block party on its Boston campus. The event, organized by the Latino American Student Organization (LASO), featured music ranging from Bachata to Salsa, live performances, and traditional Latino dishes such as Mexican birria tacos and Caribbean pollo guisado. Stephanie Gonzalez, Vice President of External Affairs for LASO, stated that the parade aims to empower students to embrace their roots and create spaces for Latinos to connect. Diego Téllez Vargas, LASO President, noted the organization's evolution from a Puerto Rican student association to one that accommodates all Latino students and welcomes anyone interested in Latin American culture, emphasizing inclusivity and sharing food.
