Tony Dokoupil, the anchor of CBS Evening News, is facing challenges in improving the show's ratings, as it continues to lag behind competitors ABC World News Tonight and NBC Nightly News. Recent Nielsen ratings indicate that CBS Evening News attracted approximately 3.8 million viewers, with fewer than 500,000 adults in the key 25-to-54 demographic during the week of April 6. This represents a significant drop, leaving CBS trailing its rivals by wide margins. ABC remains the leader in nightly news, drawing over 8 million viewers and topping 1 million in the key demographic. NBC, anchored by Tom Llamas, is gaining momentum, averaging 6.4 million viewers and showing steady year-over-year growth. CBS News is experiencing internal turmoil, with clashing leadership visions and layoffs contributing to instability. The network's flagship programs are facing historic lows in ratings, prompting concerns about future cuts.
