Parents Demand Crosswalk and School Zone Designation Near Greenacres Elementary School
Parents in Greenacres, Florida, are urgently calling for the installation of a crosswalk and a school zone designation near Greenacres Elementary School. Families, including Brandon and Lynn Pote, who live directly across from the school, are concerned about the safety of children crossing Haverhill Road, which has a 40 mph speed limit and no existing school zone or crosswalk. The nearest guarded crosswalks are significantly farther away, near Greenacres Christian Academy and at 10th and Swain, making them impractical for many students. The Potes, who must carry their developmentally delayed daughter across the street, highlighted the daily dangers, with one incident involving a child nearly being struck by a car. Neighbor Omar Trevino echoed these concerns, emphasizing the difficulty for both cars and children to cross safely.
