Senator Gillibrand Introduces Legislation to Expand Accessible Housing Options
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) has introduced two pieces of legislation aimed at supporting the expansion of accessible housing. The first bill, the Senior Accessible Housing Tax Credit Act, proposes a tax credit for senior homeowners who modify their homes to allow them to age in place safely. The second bill, the Visitable Inclusive Tax Credits for Accessible Living (VITAL) Act, seeks to incentivize the construction of affordable homes equipped with accessibility features. According to Senator Gillibrand, the Senior Accessible Housing Tax Credit Act would help seniors maintain their dignity by assisting with the costs of home modifications related to mobility needs. The VITAL Act, she stated, would ensure that affordable housing meets the mobility and accessibility requirements of both seniors and individuals with disabilities.
