LAUSD Principals' Union Secures New Contract with Raises and Flex Time
Maria Nichols, the head of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) principals' union, Associated Administrators of Los Angeles (AALA)/Teamsters Local 2010, has successfully negotiated a new contract for the district's 3,000 principals, assistant principals, and middle managers. The agreement includes a raise of more than 11% and introduces a 40-hour workweek with flexible time off for extra hours, addressing long-standing concerns about demanding schedules. This contract is part of a broader negotiation effort involving other unions, such as the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 99 and United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA), which have secured higher percentage increases. The unions have pledged solidarity, agreeing to strike together if any one of them fails to secure a contract.
