Kentwood Public Schools Integrates Durable Skills into STEM Education
Kentwood Public Schools in Michigan is focusing on integrating 'durable skills' into their STEM education programs. These skills, previously known as 'soft skills' or 'employability skills', include leadership, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving. The initiative is part of a broader effort to prepare students for the workforce by embedding these skills into classroom learning. The program is supported by the Kent ISD STEM consultant, Du Bui, who is working with local districts to implement these skills into core instruction. The approach is designed to help students develop competencies that are essential for navigating life and careers, especially in a rapidly changing job market influenced by technology and automation.
