Maryland Delegation Submits Historical Items for Congressional Time Capsule to Celebrate America's 250th Anniversary
The full Maryland Congressional Delegation, including U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks, and U.S. Representatives Steny Hoyer, Kweisi Mfume, Andy Harris, Jamie Raskin, Glenn Ivey, Sarah Elfreth, April McClain Delaney, and Johnny Olszewski, has submitted significant historical items to the Semiquincentennial Congressional Time Capsule. This initiative is in honor of America's 250th anniversary. The submitted items include a replica of the 15-Star Fort McHenry Flag, which inspired the national anthem, and a Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroad Centenary Souvenir Medal. These artifacts were sealed and buried by the Architect of the Capitol, alongside contributions from every state and territory, reflecting the nation's history and culture. The time capsule is scheduled to be opened by the 224th Congress on July 4, 2276, coinciding with the nation's 500th anniversary.
