Robbins Science Center Reopens After Extensive Repairs Following Bus Crash
The Robbins Science Center, located at Hamline University, has reopened after undergoing substantial repairs due to water damage caused by a school bus crashing into the building on June 2. The incident led to a sprinkler pipe rupture, resulting in significant water damage. Associate Vice President of Facilities Services and Capital Planning, Dusty Johnson, confirmed that crews replaced drywall, framing, cabinetry, ceilings, lighting, and installed new flooring on the lower and main levels. While most repairs are complete, a new stone exterior at the crash site is the final major project, expected to be installed within the next couple of weeks. Biology professors Bridget Jacques-Fricke and Leif Hembre, whose offices were destroyed, have returned to newly constructed spaces, though they are still in the process of replacing lost materials.
