Colonel Sanders' Personal Artifacts Previewed Before Auction in Shelbyville
In Shelbyville, Kentucky, the public had the opportunity to preview a collection of personal artifacts belonging to Colonel Harland Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). The collection, preserved by the Settle family since 1974, includes Sanders' personal working planner, handwritten recipes, letters from U.S. presidents, and his signature bow tie. The live auction for nearly 100 items is scheduled for July 28, with the property, including the Claudia Sanders Dinner House and Blackwood Hall, available through a sealed-bid process until July 31. The property, which served as the first KFC headquarters, includes a 5,000-square-foot residence and a 25,000-square-foot restaurant and banquet hall. The auction has attracted interest from corporate bidders worldwide.
