UNEP Conference at Jesus College Disrupted by Environmental Activists Over Speaker Controversies
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) organized the Nature Action Dialogues conference at Jesus College, aiming to foster collaboration between business, finance, and conservation leaders. However, the event was disrupted by environmental activists from the Organisation of Radical Cambridge Activists (ORCA). The activists accused the conference of featuring speakers from companies with poor environmental records, including Nestlé, Suzano, Teck, and WWF. ORCA claimed that one-fifth of the speakers were from companies involved in pollution, over-extraction, or violations against indigenous populations. The protest included picketing, distributing leaflets, and creating noise disruptions. Despite the protests, the conference continued with participation from notable figures in the sustainability sector.
