Smithfield Firefighters Rescue Unconscious Dog from Residential Blaze
Firefighters in Smithfield, Rhode Island, successfully rescued a pit bull mix named Jax from a burning home on Woodland Road. The incident occurred on a Tuesday morning when fire crews responded to reports of smoke and flames emanating from the kitchen. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly located Jax, who was found unconscious under blankets and towels in a bedroom towards the back of the house. Smithfield Fire Department Chief Derek Keene confirmed that Jax was unresponsive but still breathing and had a pulse when he was brought out of the residence. Approximately 12 firefighters worked together on the front lawn to provide immediate care to the dog, including administering oxygen, fluids, and applying cool towels to regulate his temperature. The fire, which officials determined started accidentally on the stove, was contained to the kitchen area. No human injuries were reported during the incident.
