DoD Removes Public Access to Weapons Testing Reports Amid Security Concerns
The Department of Defense (DoD) has removed unclassified annual reports on weapons testing from its website, citing concerns that artificial intelligence could help foreign adversaries compile detailed profiles of U.S. military vulnerabilities. The reports have been transitioned to a secure, authenticated network accessible only to authorized personnel. This move is part of a broader effort to strengthen operational security. The Office of the Director, Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E), which provides independent oversight of military testing, has historically published these reports to inform Congress and the public. The decision has sparked criticism, with some arguing it violates legal requirements for transparency.
