A new and mysterious AI model named Ox Alpha has appeared on OpenRouter, drawing significant attention from developers for its impressive capabilities in coding, sustained agentic work, and complex reasoning. Described as a 'stealth model' from an anonymous third-party provider, Ox Alpha is currently offered for free with 'near unlimited usage,' boasting a capacity of 100 trillion tokens per day. This capacity is approximately 100 times the daily AI token usage reported by Visa. The model is designed to combine text with visual context, making it suitable for long-horizon software engineering and intricate workflows. Its sudden appearance and high performance have sparked widespread speculation regarding its origin, with early theories pointing towards Chinese AI labs or potentially Microsoft's MAI family.
