Osprey Chicks Hatch at RSPB's Campfield Marsh, Marking Conservation Success
For the first time, a pair of ospreys have successfully hatched three chicks at the RSPB's Campfield Marsh nature reserve in Cumbria, England. The adult ospreys, with the male having been ringed in Dumfries in 2021, are believed to be first-time parents. The chicks have been ringed and are expected to fledge in August. They will remain in the area to learn essential survival skills such as fishing before embarking on their migration to Africa in September. This event marks a significant milestone for the RSPB, as ospreys were once extinct as a breeding bird in the UK but have been making a comeback since the 1950s.
