Federal Judge Allows Trump Administration to End Temporary Deportation Protections for Haitians
A federal judge has officially permitted the Trump administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of thousands of Haitians. This decision follows a Supreme Court ruling that reversed a previous halt on the government's plans to end TPS for Haitians, who fled their country due to political unrest and natural disasters. The ruling affects approximately 350,000 Haitians who were benefiting from the program, allowing them to live and work in the U.S. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has already begun targeting TPS holders, including Haitians, whose status was set to expire. Some Haitians have been called into ICE offices to be fitted with ankle monitors, a form of detention that restricts their movements. The case will continue as Haitians press their claim that the administration acted with discriminatory intent when ending the protections.
