Loyola University Maryland Professor Awarded $140,000 NEH Grant for Holocaust Research
Janine Holc, Ph.D., professor and chair of political science at Loyola University Maryland, has received a $140,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). The grant will fund collaborative research and writing focused on the lives of Jewish girls and women during the Holocaust. Dr. Holc will co-author a book with Marta Kubiszyn, Ph.D., from Marie Curie-Skłodowska University in Poland, examining autograph albums as Holocaust objects. These albums, kept by young Jewish women even in ghettos and concentration camps, offer unique insights into their experiences. The project aims to highlight the importance of creativity and personal writing in understanding Jewish responses to persecution and to document the role of young people, particularly girls, as historical actors.
