Wildfire Destroys 47 Buildings in Brantley County, Georgia
A significant wildfire in Brantley County, Georgia, has resulted in the destruction of 47 buildings after the fire expanded nearly tenfold overnight. The blaze has prompted evacuations around Highway 82 and led to school closures in the affected area. The fire is currently only 10% contained, as reported by the state forestry commission. Smoke from this fire, along with another in Clinch County, is drifting into metro Atlanta, causing hazy conditions. Due to the ongoing extreme drought conditions, wildfires have exceeded the state's five-year average. In response, a mandatory burn ban has been issued for 91 counties across Georgia. Governor Brian Kemp has declared a state of emergency and is coordinating with state and federal officials to combat the fires and provide assistance to affected communities.
