Colorado Rep. Pettersen Introduces Bipartisan Wildfire Bills to Enhance Disaster Response
Colorado Democratic Representative Brittany Pettersen has introduced a package of six bipartisan bills aimed at improving the state's preparedness and response to wildfires. This legislative effort follows the devastating Aspen Acres and Willow fires, which burned over 100,000 acres and destroyed 300 homes. The bills focus on various aspects of wildfire management, including research, firefighter health care, and disaster funding. Key components include the Wildfire Research Coordination Act, which seeks to enhance collaboration among federal agencies for better wildfire research, and the Wildfire Responder Protection Act, which expands health care coverage for all personnel involved in fire activities. Additionally, the Emergency Mountain Pine Beetle Response Act aims to mitigate threats from pine beetle outbreaks that exacerbate wildfire risks.
