Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Partners with Polk County to Protect Farmland
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, in collaboration with Polk County, has successfully preserved nearly 1,000 acres of working farmland. This initiative, part of the Rural and Family Lands Protection Program, aims to safeguard valuable agricultural properties from urban development while ensuring farming and ranching activities can continue. The preservation effort includes a 916-acre ranch, featuring both agricultural areas and native Florida ecosystems, and a 75-acre property primarily used for cattle pasture with important wetland connections. These agricultural conservation easements prevent urban sprawl on the land, supporting local food production, strengthening rural economies, and protecting natural resources.
