European Union Predicts Decline in Beef and Sheep Production for 2026
The European Commission has updated its short-term forecasts for 2026, predicting a decline in beef and sheep production within the European Union. Beef production is expected to decrease by 2% to 6.25 million tons due to a structural decline in livestock numbers. Sheep production is projected to fall by 4% to 478,800 tons. Meanwhile, pork production is anticipated to remain stable. The report also forecasts an increase in beef imports by 12% and a decrease in exports by 12%, influenced by upcoming restrictions on Brazilian beef imports due to antimicrobial resistance concerns.
