Cyberattacks on Medical Devices Disrupt Healthcare Systems, Impacting Patient Care
Medical device-targeted cyberattacks have significantly impacted healthcare organizations in the U.S., UK, and Germany over the past year. According to a report by RunSafe Security, 24% of these organizations experienced such attacks, with 80% of incidents causing moderate to significant damage to patient care. Despite the widespread use of AI in healthcare, cybersecurity threats remain a major concern. Many healthcare organizations are investing in cybersecurity measures, but outdated and unsupported devices continue to pose risks. Notable medical device manufacturers affected include Medtronic, allegedly extorted by the ShinyHunters group, and Stryker, targeted by the Iran-backed Handala group.
