Flossmoor School District 161 Approves AI Plan to Guide Classroom Technology Use
The Flossmoor School District 161 Board of Education has unanimously approved a districtwide artificial intelligence (AI) implementation plan. This plan is designed to guide the use of AI technology in both classrooms and administrative settings starting in the 2026-27 school year. The initiative aligns with a state requirement for Illinois school districts to adopt an AI plan by July 1. The plan emphasizes responsible and ethical AI use, focusing on academic integrity, student privacy, and critical thinking. It mandates that AI tools should only support learning after students demonstrate their understanding of the topic independently. Teachers are required to communicate when AI use is allowed, restricted, or prohibited, and students must disclose how AI tools are used in their work. The district has also included privacy safeguards, prohibiting the entry of personally identifiable student information into AI systems.
