Students Reconsidering Majors and Career Paths Due to AI, CNBC Survey Reveals
A recent CNBC and SurveyMonkey Quarterly AI and Jobs Survey indicates that a significant number of students and workers currently enrolled in school are re-evaluating their academic and career choices due to the perceived impact of artificial intelligence (AI). Nearly one-third (31%) of these individuals have either changed or considered changing their target industry because of AI. This figure rises to 39% among unemployed students. The survey, conducted from July 22 to 27, polled 1,686 students and workers across the U.S. and has a modeled error estimate of plus or minus 2 percentage points. Beyond industry changes, 45% of respondents are reconsidering the skills they are developing, 34% are changing the types of jobs they are applying for, and 35% are rethinking the companies they hope to join.
