Texas Attorney General Investigates 'Heart Healthy' Labels on Food Products for Misleading Claims
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has initiated an investigation into several major food manufacturers over allegations of misleading consumers by labeling certain products as 'heart healthy.' The investigation focuses on whether these companies have violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act by promoting foods as beneficial for heart health despite containing ingredients that may contribute to health problems. The products under scrutiny include Mazola Canola Oil and Sun Chips, which are alleged to contain seed oils, added sugars, refined grains, and other additives that could negatively impact health. The Attorney General's office has issued Civil Investigative Demands to companies such as Frito-Lay, Flora Food Group, and ACH Foods, requiring them to provide documents and information relevant to the inquiry.
