Target Recalls Baby Wipes Due to Bacterial Contamination Risking Sepsis and Pneumonia
Target has issued a recall for its Up & Up brand baby wipes, both fragrance-free and cucumber-scented, following reports of infections in infants. The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found the wipes contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia and Burkholderia gladioli, bacteria that can cause serious infections, including life-threatening sepsis and pneumonia. These products were sold nationwide in Target stores and online. Consumers have reported product discoloration, skin irritations, and infections. The FDA advises consumers to stop using the wipes immediately and return them to any Target store for a full refund. The recall affects packages of various sizes, and Target is coordinating with the manufacturer, Sapro Temizlik Urunleri, to investigate the issue further.
