University of Memphis Launches Quantum Information Science Research Program to Explore Practical Applications
The University of Memphis has initiated a new Quantum Information Science Research Program. This program aims to build research capacity within the university and position its faculty to secure emerging state and federal funding opportunities in quantum information science. Led by Dr. Thomas Stafford, professor and chair of the Department of Management Information Systems, the program is currently supporting 12 faculty-led projects. These projects are focused on the applied aspects of quantum computing, investigating its potential implications for various sectors including businesses, cybersecurity, software development, manufacturing, supply chains, and the workforce. The research also seeks to determine what organizations and communities should undertake now to prepare for the practical implementation of quantum computing.
