Teenage Siblings Launch 'Pizza For A Purpose' App, Delivering Over 25,000 Slices to Combat Hunger
Aashrita Kaza, 13, and her brother Anish, have developed and launched a mobile application called 'Pizza For A Purpose' to address food insecurity in their community. The initiative began after they observed numerous families, including young children, in lines at a Broward County food pantry in South Florida. Their app facilitates a direct connection between local restaurants, grocery stores, or participating businesses and nearby charities. Users can select a business and a charity through the app, and the chosen establishment then prepares and delivers food, primarily pizza, directly to the charity for distribution to those in need. Since its launch two years ago, the program has successfully delivered over 25,000 slices of pizza to families in Broward County and surrounding areas. This effort provides hot meals without the need for recipients to wait in lines or fill out forms, emphasizing dignity in food assistance.
