Mariano Cenamo, Advocate for Amazon Bioeconomy, Passes Away at 46
Mariano Cenamo, a prominent advocate for the Amazon bioeconomy, has died at the age of 46. Cenamo dedicated over two decades to making standing forests economically competitive with activities like cattle ranching that drive deforestation. He co-founded Idesam and supported sustainable businesses in the Amazon. His work spanned forest carbon, REDD+, agroforestry, and bioeconomy ventures, focusing on creating income sources for Amazon residents. Cenamo's efforts included replacing degraded pastures with agroforestry systems and promoting products like Café Apuí. He was known for his ability to connect diverse stakeholders and drive practical solutions for forest conservation.
