Interlochen Public Radio Completes Tower Upgrades for Improved FM Signals
Interlochen Public Radio (IPR) has announced the completion of its tower project in Emmet County, Michigan. This upgrade means that Classical IPR WIAB-88.5 FM and IPR News Radio WHBP-90.1 FM are now broadcasting from a new location, which is expected to significantly improve reception for listeners. The move to the new tower was primarily driven by a desire to reduce operational costs, with IPR anticipating annual savings of over $25,000 in rent, nearly halving their previous expenses. Additionally, the new location was chosen to provide better FM signals to a larger audience in northern Michigan, a claim that IPR had to substantiate to the FCC to secure approval for the relocation.
