Above-Average Temperatures Expected Across Northern California This Fall
The Climate Prediction Center has released its fall 2026 weather outlook, predicting above-average temperatures across most of the United States, including Northern California. Redding, in Shasta County, will experience a temporary break from the summer heat starting Tuesday, with temperatures dropping to the 70s-80s °F (21-27 °C) through September 7. However, 90 °F (32 °C) heat is expected to return by September 8 and persist through mid-September. The forecast also highlights the influence of a strong El Niño, which is expected to dominate weather patterns this fall, bringing drier-than-average conditions to much of the West, including Redding. Rainfall is unlikely in the region, though a slight chance of rain exists for Thursday. Nationwide, the fall season is expected to feature warmer-than-average temperatures, with the strongest anomalies in the Pacific Northwest, northern Rockies, and northwestern California.
