University of Michigan Initiative Combats Loneliness Among Older Adults
A program called Perfect Pair, founded by a University of Michigan student in 2020, aims to reduce social isolation among older adults by pairing them with college students. The initiative was launched during the pandemic to address the growing issue of loneliness among the elderly, exacerbated by social distancing measures. The program facilitates regular interactions between students and older adults, fostering meaningful connections and providing companionship. This approach not only benefits the older adults by reducing feelings of loneliness but also offers students valuable life experiences and insights into the challenges faced by the elderly population.
