Virginia Health Care Foundation Awards $14.39 Million to Transform Rural Health Care Through Technology Investments
The Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF) has announced 25 awards totaling $14.39 million under Virginia’s Rural Health Transformation Program. These funds are allocated to rural health care providers across all six of Virginia’s rural regions, from Southwest Virginia to the Eastern Shore. The initiative aims to modernize technology, improve patient-provider connectivity, and enhance health information management. Projects funded fall into four categories: improving network capacity, modernizing electronic health records, strengthening cybersecurity, and enabling electronic data exchange. Specific examples include Buchanan General Hospital receiving $382,000 to replace its outdated phone system and an additional $33,000 to integrate its Tristate Clinic into the hospital's existing electronic health record system.
