NTSB Report: Speed and Structural Failure Led to Fatal 2024 Plane Crash
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its final report on a 2024 plane crash that resulted in the deaths of Joseph and Sharon Bryant near Marianna, Arkansas. The couple was flying a Piper PA46-500TP from Pensacola, Florida, to Batesville, Arkansas, when the aircraft entered a rapid descent and spiraled out of control. The NTSB concluded that the crash was caused by the pilot exceeding the aircraft's speed limits, leading to in-flight structural failure. The report noted that the plane encountered strong vertical wind shear and structural icing conditions, which contributed to the accident. The wreckage was found in a field, with parts of the aircraft separated from the fuselage. Toxicology reports indicated the presence of phentermine in the pilot's system, but no cardiac event was found.
