Two iconic bars in Santa Monica, The Misfit Bar & Restaurant and Britannia Pub, have announced their closures, contributing to the growing number of vacant storefronts on the Third Street Promenade. The Misfit, a popular eatery for 15 years, closed its doors permanently on a recent Saturday, with many patrons gathering to bid farewell. The closure was attributed to ownership issues and ongoing challenges in Downtown Santa Monica, as stated by LGO Hospitality. Meanwhile, Britannia Pub, a staple for 30 years, will close in July when its lease expires, although it plans to relocate. The closures reflect broader issues affecting the area, including crime, rising rents, and changing consumer habits.
