China's Trade Envoy Calls for APEC Cooperation Amid U.S.-China Trade Tensions
China's International Trade Representative, Li Chenggang, chaired the opening of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) trade ministers' meeting in Suzhou, China. The meeting was marked by a call for regional economies to support cooperation, despite ongoing trade tensions. Li stepped in for China's Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, who was absent due to 'urgent official business.' The meeting follows a recent agreement between the U.S. and China, where China committed to purchasing Boeing aircraft and U.S. agricultural products. The U.S. delegation was led by Ambassador Rick Switzer, Deputy United States Trade Representative. APEC, founded in 1989, serves as a forum for discussions on free trade and economic cooperation, now comprising 21 member economies.
