PUSD Trustee Jennifer Hall Lee to Discuss Impact of Willowbrook Whistleblowing at Rotary Event
Jennifer Hall Lee, a board member of the Pasadena Unified School District, is set to speak at the Rotary Club of Pasadena about her mother's role in whistleblowing at Willowbrook State School, a New York institution for people with disabilities. Elizabeth Lee's efforts in the early 1970s led to the exposure of poor conditions at Willowbrook, culminating in its closure and significant changes in special education nationwide. The event will highlight the historical impact of these actions, including the passage of the Education for All Handicapped Children Act in 1975, which guaranteed free appropriate public education for children with disabilities.
