Italian Court Overturns Israeli Defense Contract for Rome Airport
An Italian court has invalidated a contract for supplying anti-drone technology to Rome's main airport, Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci, which was initially awarded to Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, an Israeli company. The Council of State, Italy's highest administrative court, ruled in favor of ELT, an Italian contractor, citing that the Israeli system was classified as military equipment, unsuitable for civilian use. This decision comes amid growing concerns over drone-related security threats in Europe, particularly from Russia and Iran. The ruling reflects ongoing legal and bureaucratic challenges in defense procurement, especially concerning the classification of military versus civilian equipment.
