Pedestrian Dies in Late-Night Phoenix Vehicular Collision
A pedestrian, identified as 44-year-old Sharmarke Ismail, died late Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle in Phoenix. The incident occurred near 48th Street and Van Buren Street, where Ismail was reportedly crossing midblock. Phoenix Police Department officers responded to the collision at 11:53 p.m., finding Ismail with critical injuries in the roadway. Fire personnel transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment, according to police reports. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
