Venice's Admission Fee Generates Record Revenue Amid Overtourism Concerns
In 2026, Venice has collected over five million euros from admission fees charged to day visitors, marking a record high. The fee, introduced as a trial, requires day visitors to pay ten euros on select days, with discounts for early bookings. Despite the fee, Venice continues to experience high tourist numbers, particularly at iconic sites like St. Mark's Square. The city's new mayor, Simone Venturini, has proposed increasing the fee to as much as 50 euros on certain days to further manage visitor numbers. This initiative is part of broader efforts to address the challenges of overtourism in the historic city.
