Semaglutide Shows Potential in Slowing Biological Aging, According to New Research
Recent studies suggest that semaglutide, a GLP-1 injection, may slow down biological aging. A study involving 84 participants indicated that those receiving semaglutide experienced a 9 percent slowdown in biological aging compared to a placebo group. This slowdown was measured using epigenetic clocks, which analyze age-related DNA methylation patterns to understand how cells in organs like the brain, heart, liver, and kidneys are reprogrammed over time. Additionally, nearly 49 percent of participants showed longer telomeres, protective caps on DNA that typically shorten with age. Researchers, including Michael Corley, PhD, associate professor at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, emphasize that these findings do not mean semaglutide reverses aging but rather signals a potential to slow down some biological processes associated with it.
