DR Congo Considers Moving Embassy to Jerusalem, Strengthening U.S. Ties
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is exploring the relocation of its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This development follows discussions between DRC President Félix Tshisekedi and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. While no specific timeline has been provided, this move would position the DRC among a small group of nations, and the first UN-recognized African state, to establish an embassy in Jerusalem. The decision is seen as a strategic diplomatic step that could bolster Kinshasa's relationship with Washington and potentially enhance its access to military support. President Tshisekedi has previously expressed strong support for Israel, partly influenced by his Christian faith. This initiative also reflects the DRC's broader goal of strengthening its alliance with the United States, particularly as the Congolese government faces significant military pressure in the eastern part of the country.
