Portland Police Report Fatal Car Crash into Willamette River, Leaving Two Dead and One Missing
In Portland, Oregon, a tragic incident occurred when a car, driven at high speed in the wrong direction, crashed into the Willamette River early Monday morning. The Portland Police Bureau reported that the crash happened shortly after 2 a.m. when an officer observed the vehicle speeding and running red lights in downtown Portland. Despite attempts to stop the car, the driver did not comply and continued to Southwest Naito Parkway, eventually entering Waterfront Park and plunging into the river. Emergency responders, including Portland Fire & Rescue, managed to rescue one individual from the water, who was then taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, two bodies were recovered from the river, and one person remains unaccounted for, presumed dead. The search efforts were challenging due to zero visibility and high river flow conditions. The individuals involved in the crash were aged between 17 and 20.
