According to a Redfin report, Gen Z is primarily moving to cities offering strong job markets and vibrant social scenes, such as San Antonio, Washington D.C., Austin, and Nashville. Conversely, millennials, now in their 30s and early 40s, are gravitating towards metros like Houston, Dallas, and Baltimore, seeking more affordable housing and space for growing families. Both generations are notably departing from expensive coastal hubs like New York and Los Angeles. While Gen Z often makes shorter moves within regions for better jobs or lower costs, millennials also favor short hops, though some cross-country moves, like New York to Los Angeles, still occur.
