EU Film Professionals Urge Protection of Cinema Funding Amid Budget Revisions
Over 4,700 film professionals, including notable figures like Francis Ford Coppola and Juliette Binoche, have signed an open letter urging the European Union to safeguard funding for cinema under the MEDIA program. This initiative has been instrumental in supporting European films for over 35 years. The call to action comes as the EU considers merging cultural funding into a single budget under the AgoraEU plan, which could potentially dilute resources allocated specifically for cinema. The letter emphasizes the MEDIA program's role in fostering European cinema's global success, including recent Oscar-winning films.
