Governor Hochul Demands $1,700 Refunds for New York Families Due to Trump Tariffs
Governor Kathy Hochul of New York has called for $1,700 refunds for New York families, asserting that the Trump administration owes New Yorkers $13.5 billion due to tariffs. These tariffs, implemented during President Trump's tenure, were recently deemed illegal by the U.S. Supreme Court. The federal government has begun accepting refund applications from businesses, with more than $160 billion potentially being refunded. Hochul emphasized that New Yorkers have faced increased costs due to these tariffs, affecting everyday expenses such as groceries. Customs and Border Protection is managing the refund process, estimating that funds will be distributed 60 to 90 days after application approval. However, the Trump administration may attempt to delay or reduce these refunds.
